Our Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Stélmexw came home to Sen̓áḵw

On Friday, May 8, Sen̓áḵw’s first tower was blessed. Following the announcement of the occupancy permit, Sen̓áḵw hosted a beautiful blessing ceremony at the entrance of the tower. For the first time in more than a century, our people gathered at Sen̓áḵw in large numbers, singing, sharing our language and coming together in ceremony.

This blessing marked a significant milestone in bringing our people home to Sen̓áḵw. Community Members and staff gathered to witness the beginning of a new chapter for our Nation and the return to our ancestral village, as the first tower was prepared to welcome future residents into its 333 homes. The ceremony carried deep meaning, honouring our ancestors and history while looking ahead to a strong future for generations to come.

Sen̓áḵw marks the return of Squamish People to their ancestral village more than a century after being forcibly removed from the land. Guided by Úxwumixw 2050: Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Generational Plan, Phase One (three towers) delivers 1,409 homes prioritized for Squamish People, creating long-term housing, stability, and belonging for future generations.

As homes at Sen̓áḵw prepare to open this summer, Squamish People have three pathways to live in the village. The three pathways are: Hiy̓ám̓ Housing, Affordable Homes and Market Homes.

The Hiy̓ám̓ Housing application process recently closed. However, applications for the Affordable Homes pathway, remain open. Squamish People are encouraged to apply. More than 200 Affordable Homes units are available to Squamish People, with rents in the mid-to-low range. Priority for these units is given first to Squamish applicants, followed by other Indigenous applicants, and then non-Indigenous applicants.

For Affordable home applicants, note that your annual household, the total amount of money earned by all members of a household in a year, must fall within the ranges identified in the table at the start of the Living at Sen̓áḵw Guide
