Governance & Structure
Our mission is to protect the Amalgamation and enhance the úxwumixw values and traditions through respect, equality, and harmony for all. Our vision is of a Nation lifting each other up with Sḵwx̱wú7mesh care, values, and ways of knowing.
Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw Government
Our government is composed of an elected Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw (Council) – one Chairperson and seven Councillors, an elected Band Manager, and a Nation Administration overseen by the Chief Administrative Officer. We are a careful and responsible government.
We have an obligation to Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Members to carefully manage the Nation’s financial and human resources, and make decisions in the interest of the collective – for the benefit of current and future generations. Each member of Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw, as well as all other employees of the Nation, have a fiduciary duty to act honestly, in good faith, and in the best interests of the Nation while carrying out their duties and responsibilities. We do so with pride, building on the work of those who came before us.
Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw receives their mandate to carry out the political business and policy direction of the Nation from Membership through elections every four years. In turn, it provides a mandate to staff to manage the Nation’s operations based on a solid foundation of planning, policy, and procedures.
