Animal Control
For issues of animal control and reporting of dogs running at large, please reach out to the Public Safety Department. The Department’s Community Safety Team manages the animal control program and responds to animal-related concerns and incidents on Squamish reserve communities. The Community Safety Team also educates about responsible pet ownership and provides licensing services for pets.

We adhere to Five Basic Animal Welfare Freedoms
These five Animal Welfare Freedoms serve as the foundation for ensuring animals in Squamish reserve communities are safe and well.
1. Freedom from Hunger and Thirst
Ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigor.
2. Freedom from Discomfort
An appropriate environment, including shelter and a comfortable resting area.
3. Freedom from Pain, Injury, or Disease
Preventing rapid diagnosis and treatment.
4. Freedom to Express Normal Behavior
Sufficient space, proper facilities, and company of the animal’s own kind.
5. Freedom from Fear and Distress
Ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering.

Approval given for Second Floatel in Squamish
Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw Council approved the second floatel following a review process under the Squamish National Environmental Assessment Agreement (SNEAA) -- the first Indigenous-led environmental assessment of its kind.
