In January 2023 Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw (Council) directed Nation staff, Nch’ḵay̓ Development Corporation and Hiy̓ám̓ Housing to create development strategies for 5 priority Nation lands:
- Xwmélch’sten Capilano I.R. No. 5 (including the International Plaza site)
- Ch’ich’élx̱ x̱ wí7ḵw Seymour I.R. No. 2(including Lynnwood Marina)
- Stá7mes I.R. No. 24 (including Site B)
- Ch’ḵw’elhp I.R. No. 26
- A 5th site in the Squamish Valley to be identified through this process.
The Land Development Strategies will allow for the Nation to assess their lands and create development plans that meet the Nation’s social, environmental, cultural, economic and political goals. The resulting plans will identify possible land uses, development forms, community amenities and revenues that could benefit the Nation through the sites’ redevelopment.
Project Timeline: The Land Development Strategies will be completed by Spring 2024. Pending Council direction, future phases of the Land Development Strategies will include implementation by way of a community Land Designation vote.
