The Ayás Mén̓men Guardianship team has parental duties towards our children and youth and is responsible for their care, custody and guardianship. Under the Community Family Child Service Act, we are delegated to perform these responsibilities for Squamish Nation children & youth. The Guardianship Team delivers services to children and youth from the Squamish Nation who are in long term, or continuing care.
Guardianship of our Sḵwx̱wú7mesh children and youth involves decision-making responsibility and supporting the following areas:
- Connection to their family, community & culture
- Physical care and care placement with family or other caregiver
- Educational needs & employment opportunities & exploration
- Transition to adulthood health and emotional and behavioural development
- Overall wellbeing plan including spiritual, emotional, mind & body
