The Strategic Plan prioritizes planning for Elders’ homes, wellness supports, and places where they can gather to be together, be close to community, and practice Sḵwx̱wú7mesh traditions and culture – places built for and with Elders, including them throughout the process and taking their needs into consideration.
Council has approved several important projects that are moving ahead:
- North Shore Elders Centre Expansion – Construction begins in October 2025, with the expanded Centre planning to welcome Elders in late 2026/early 2027.
- Squamish Valley Elders Village – Business plan for 26 Elder homes with long-term care and assisted living, plus a new Elders Centre, traditional food hub, childcare centre, and over 100 multi-generational homes that will also include more homes for Elders.
- North Shore Elders Village – Business plan for 40 Elder homes with long-term care and assisted living, along with a new Elders Centre, traditional food hub, and healthcare centre.
- Elder Home Care and Retrofit Plan – Making existing homes more comfortable and accessible so Elders can stay safely at home.
- Chenkw Em̓út and Orwell Projects – New housing led by Hiy̓ám̓ Housing, with Elders welcomed as part of multi-generational communities.
These projects were approved by Council as part of the 2025/26 Capital Plan. Together, these projects reflect the Nation’s commitment to care for Elders and to bring Squamish People home within a generation.
We will continue to work with Elders and the Community on next steps along the way.
