Nation provides clarity on Central 1 building

A Vancouver Sun story published today reports that Nch’ḵaý Development Corporation is negotiating to purchase the Central 1 office building at 1441 Creekside Drive in Vancouver. The article appeared before we had the opportunity to brief the community. We therefore wish to clarify the situation:

Conditional agreement in place: Nch’ḵaý Development Corporation has a conditional agreement to explore purchasing the Central 1 office building. However, no deal is final yet; the terms of the deal remain confidential, and more steps are needed to pursue the opportunity.

Why Nch’ḵaý Development Corporation is involved: Nch’ḵaý Development Corporation is Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw’s (Squamish Nation) economic-development company. Nch’ḵaý’s job is to run the Nation’s businesses and look for business opportunities that will bring long-term benefits to our Nation.

Why this building matters: The Central 1 site sits right next to our Sen̓áḵw lands. Whenever land beside our lands comes up for sale, the Nation has a responsibility to look into it.

Our process: Before any purchase is completed, our teams will conduct careful, confidential research to make sure the deal makes sense for the Nation.

What’s next: If this purchase — or any other — moves forward, we will share information openly with the community as soon as possible and before anything is finalized.
