Election & Referendum Law Vote Results

A substantial number of Members voted for the Election and Referendum Law. There were 899 total voters, including online and in-person ballots.     

An overview of the vote results 

Changes: 

  • 16 Councillors  
  • Vote for all Councillors (remove the regions)  
  • Only one (1) immediate family member to be on Council  
  • 5-minute speaking limit at People’s Assembly meetings  

 

Did not change: 

  • Definition of immediate family member  
  • All voters choose the Council chairperson

Changes passed from the May 31, 2025, referendum will be implemented and effective for the Squamish Nation General Election on September 28, 2025.
