The Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) is calling on the Province to immediately withdraw Bill 15. Khelsilem, Council Chairperson, has written to the Province outlining the Nation’s key concerns.
Bill 15, the Infrastructure Projects Act, was introduced May 1, and allows the Province to fast-track approval of major public infrastructure projects through a sped-up environmental assessment process and easing of the permitting procedure.
As a self-governing Nation with deep responsibilities to our lands and waters, the Nation views this legislation as a step backward. Chair writes: “It mirrors patterns of unilateralism and colonialism that reconciliation is meant to redress – not repeat.”
