Chiy̓áxw (Child & Family Law) Advisory Groups

Chiy̓áxw is inviting Squamish Nation Members to help shape the future of Nation Child and Family Services through two important advisory groups focused on developing Squamish-centered child and family law and services grounded in our teachings, values, protocols, and ways of being.

The purpose of these advisory groups is to Indigenize the four pillars of a future Nation Child and Family Services agency:
• Family support services (prevention)
• Keeping children safe (protection)
• Community resources for success (emergency placements/healing options)
• Compliance with Squamish protocols and Nation Law (jurisdiction/Law)

We are currently seeking members from across the community, including both North Vancouver and Squamish Valley communities, to join:

🔹 Chiy̓áxw Advisory Members (CAM)
Contribute your expertise, ideas, recommendations, and lived experience to help develop a Squamish-centered child and family service under Nation Law. Members will support service change and delivery that reflects Squamish traditional practices and our inherent right to care for Nation children.

🔹 Knowledge Keepers (KK)
Share historical, cultural, and archaeological knowledge, including teachings and descriptions of local societal laws that existed within our Nation territories since pre-colonial times.

All meetings are held at 2-380 Welch Street, AMM, once a month – CAM last Monday evening of the month, and KK last Tuesday afternoon of the month. Catering is provided for both meetings.

Youth and Elders are strongly encouraged to apply for both groups.
Honorariums are provided in recognition of time dedicated to this important work.

Together, we can help build a strong future for our children, families, and Nation grounded in Squamish teachings, laws, and community care.
