Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) has been notified that the Woodfibre LNG (WLNG) project at Swiy̓át requires more hydroelectric power than the current BC Hydro lines can provide. WLNG has asked BC Hydro to build a new power line to fully power the operations of the facility.
The proposed new power line would be built within the existing BC Hydro right of way through Squamish where power lines already exist — starting from the Cheakamus power station and connecting to the WLNG facility.
Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw is now undertaking a full review of the proposal.
You can read more about the proposed power line project on the BC Hydro website here.
BC Hydro is holding an open house information session, open to all residents of Squamish, on March 31.
