‘Gifts to be Shared, Protected, and Carried Forward’
A new featured exhibit celebrating Sḵwx̱wú7mesh culture is now open at the Museum of North Vancouver (MONOVA).
The exhibition is curated by Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) Hereditary Chief Dr. Janice George and developed in partnership with MONOVA and our Nation’s Ta na wa Ns7éyx̱nitm ta Snew̓íyelh (Language & Cultural Affairs) department. A blessing and welcoming ceremony was held on June 4 and 5 to officially open the exhibit.
The exhibition features treasured pieces from Chief Dr. Janice George’s personal collection alongside community-held belongings that reflect generations of cultural knowledge, artistic excellence, and care. Together, these pieces share stories of connection, stewardship, and the enduring strength of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh teachings and traditions.
As we welcome visitors from around the world in our Sḵwx̱wú7mesh-ulh Temíx̱w (territory belonging to the Squamish People) this summer, this exhibit also provides an opportunity for the world to learn about the rich cultural heritage of our Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Stélmexw (Squamish People) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation).
From now until July 12, 2026, MONOVA is offering all visitors Pay-What-You-Can admission to visit this exhibition and learn about our culture.
Admission is free for all self-identifying Indigenous people.
The exhibition will be on display at MONOVA from now until March 2027.
