Today, Nov. 4, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw Councillor Sinámḵin Jody Broomfield informed Council he is resigning his seat, effective immediately, due to personal and medical reasons. Councillor Broomfield offered his resignation to Councill, led by Ceremony.
This is the right decision for Councillor Broomfield and his health, and Council is fully supportive.
“This morning, with ceremony, I informed Council that I will be resigning my seat due to personal and medical reasons. Serving the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh People has been one of the greatest privileges of my life, and I thank you for your trust and support. This is a decision I have struggled with for some time and did not make lightly, but I feel I need this time to focus on my health. Although I will be stepping away from the Council table, I will continue to be active in the community and be of service to our people in the best way that I can.
I’d like to wish my fellow colleagues all the best: continue to put your best foot forward to represent our People, building for the prosperity of our Peoples for generations to come. One heart, one mind. Continue pulling that canoe for our People in the right direction.
Chen kwenmatuniyap – I thank you all.
– Sinámḵin, Jody Broomfield
