Nexwnínlhewá7nem Ch’áwch’aw (People Services) has heard the voices of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh People – calling for more wellness supports, stronger mental health care, and services deeply grounded in culture. In response, the Nexwnílnlhewá7nem Ch’áwch’aw hén̓xwilhem (People Services on Wheels) van has been launched. This mobile outreach service is equipped with medical tools and staffed by a dedicated team, bringing support directly to communities across the North Shore and Squamish Valley.
The van made its public debut at Amalgamation Day and is now travelling through reserve communities and community gathering spaces. It offers immediate, practical assistance. It also strengthens a system of care that reflects the identity, values, and traditions of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh People. During the coming months, the service will grow with expanded staffing, increased hours, and additional equipment, ensuring it can meet evolving community needs.
This initiative was made possible through the strong collaboration of staff across Yuustway Health & Wellness, Membership Services, Ayás Mén̓men Child & Family Services, and the Public Safety Department’s Community Safety Team – all working together with a shared commitment to care rooted in culture, connection, and community voice. The launch of People Services on Wheels marks an important step in bringing wellness services directly to where people live, gather, and connect.
