SFU’s Burnaby Campus is opening a new space called the First Peoples’ Gathering House. The new facility is a dedicated place for cultural connection, learning and community. Rooted in Coast Salish design traditions, the Gathering House offers a place for ceremonies, workshops, classes and celebrations. It stands as a home away from home for Indigenous students, staff and faculty and hopes to provide comfort, cultural safety and a sense of belonging. To mark its grand opening, the Gathering House will be hosting an event in the new cultural space on Burnaby Campus, on Friday, September 12 from 2:30 pm – 6 pm.
Squamish Community is invited to drop in for an Indigenous cultural celebration. The event will feature performances from Indigenous artists, opportunities to share bannock, and guided tours of the new building. This free event is open to all – no registration required.
