Stay safe and injury-free this Halloween and protect our land, people and pets from damage and fires.
Injuries from fireworks peak in the days surrounding Halloween. These injuries include burns to the hands, head and eyes, and may require a visit to an emergency department.
The Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw Fireworks Ban Bylaw, passed last year, prohibits the use, promotion, sale, and possession of fireworks on all Sḵwx̱wú7mesh land.
Fines for those caught violating any aspect of this ban can go up to $1,000.
Squamish Members can safely enjoy fireworks in the Squamish Valley at a Public Safety Department-approved display. This long-running event will follow the family Halloween party at Totem Hall on October 29. The fireworks display is from 8:15 to 8:35 pm at the nearby Stawamus waterfront on Chief Billy Drive.
The Fireworks Ban Bylaw’s only exemption is for events hosted by a Sḵwx̱wú7mesh department, not individuals. These events require approval from the Public Safety Department, an approved event safety plan, a FireSmart BC assessment, and the presence of the Community Safety Team.
If you have any questions about the fireworks ban, or want to report violations, please contact public_safety@squamish.net or 604-982-9938.
We can keep our children, ourselves, and our Community safe this Halloween season by observing the Fireworks Ban Bylaw.
