Archives
Archives are the records we keep to remember, understand, and share the stories of our community. They can include audio and video recordings, photographs, textual records, maps, letters, scrapbooks, ephemera, newspapers, and other material.

The Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw Archive collects, preserves, and cares for records connected to the Nation and its community. We make these materials available for community members to explore, learn from, and connect with their own histories. By caring for these records today, we help keep our history and knowledge safe for future generations.

How can I engage with the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw Archive?
Community members can contact the Archivist with questions, research requests, or to learn more about our collections. You can also visit Ta X̱ay Sxwimálatncht, our online collections database, to explore photographs, documents, oral histories, and other materials.

Library
The Reference Library consists of books and published materials about Sḵwx̱wú7mesh history, language, and culture, as well as academic research, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh sníchim related children’s books, and reference books. The Library is non-circulating; please get in touch to arrange a visit to access the collection.

Cultural Collection
The Cultural Collection includes belongings that represent aspects of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh material cultural heritage and art. The collection includes historical and contemporary carvings, baskets, weavings, paintings, and other forms of art that are being actively collected, shared, and preserved for future generations of Nation Members.

Do you have archival material or cultural artwork that tells a story about Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw, your family, or our community? We would love to hear from you and help care for these belongings so that they may be preserved for future generations. Explore Ta X̱ay Sxwimálatncht

Ta X̱ay Sxwimálatncht is the Squamish Nation’s online collections database. It allows community members to discover photographs, oral histories, and other materials held by the Archives, as well as carvings, woven cedar baskets, and other belongings held in the Cultural Collections. Access to the database varies depending on the materials. Some records are available to everyone, while additional materials are available to Squamish Nation members and staff. Nation members and staff can email the Archivist to register for an account and receive full access.
