District of Squamish and Squamish Nation Launch Joint “Land Back Task Force”

Today, the District of Squamish announced the creation of a new joint task force between the District and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation).

The mandate for the new “Land Back Task Force” was approved at a District council meeting on March 17. The aim of the Task Force is to build a framework for future decisions about publicly held land.

Three members of Squamish Nation Council and three members of the District of Squamish Council sit on the task force.

The task force is a continuation of the work outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), signed by Squamish Nation and the District of Squamish in July 2025. The MOU builds on decades of cooperation between the two governments.
