Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw could be interpreted as “Always Advised by the People”. Xwníw̓n refers to a core concept in Sḵwx̱wú7mesh ways of being that in order to give good advice, one would also have been given good advice. Elders would describe this as someone with good upbringing. The name refers to the way Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw is advised by the Squamish People.
Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw is the elected decision-making body that sets the overall direction of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw, both internally and externally. It receives a mandate to carry out the political business of the Nation from Membership through elections every four years.
Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw ensures that the Nation is provided with leadership in intergovernmental relations, effective administration, and strong financial and resource stewardship to support exceptional program and service delivery. It meets on Thursday and Friday every second week.
Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw has a responsibility to govern the affairs of the Nation as a whole and uphold its fiduciary duty to act honestly, in good faith, and in the best interests of all Members.
