Nexwsp’áyaḵen ta Úxwumixw is responsible for maintaining all Nation-owned buildings, roads and general areas. The department works to ensure all Nation-owned buildings are a safe place for the Nation’s employees and Members.

Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Name: Nexwsp’áyaḵen ta Úxwumixw
“Nexwsp’áyaḵen ta Úxwumixw ” could be interpreted to mean “often fixing the community.” The root word p’áyeḵen has various meanings to include setting things up, like a table for dinner. The name is a reference to the role of fixing and setting up many things.
Programs & Services
The Field Repair division oversees all projects and services relating to the maintenance and repair of Nation-owned facilities and grounds on Squamish Valley and North Vancouver reserves. This division is also responsible for maintaining the roads, which includes snow removal and de-icing during the winter months.
The Renovation division takes requests from Nation Members to replace roofs, decks, bathrooms, flooring and kitchens. Nation Members living on-reserve can submit a “Work Order Request” by email for work needed in homes. They can also call to create a Work Order Request over the phone.
The Security division exists to ensure the ongoing security of the administration office, Capilano complex, and all Nation-owned buildings. Security is provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Security staff are responsible for ensuring the staff and buildings are safe at all times. At the administration office, security staff monitor 114 cameras that provide an extra level of security for the staff, building, and membership.

The Building Services division is responsible for safe, clean, well-maintained buildings and associated grounds. This division consists of janitors and building maintenance coordinators. The janitors are responsible for cleaning and disinfecting where necessary, and the building maintenance coordinators support the productivity of Nation employees by ensuring smooth and clean operation of buildings.
Typical duties of building maintenance employees are opening the building, handling deliveries, moving furniture, minor repairs, changing lights, and other duties as requested by staff.
