Community Notice: Temporary Closure – Squamish Valley FSR at 21 km (Mud Creek)

The Squamish Valley Forest Service Road (FSR) is temporarily closed at the 21 km mark, also known locally as Mud Creek or Turbid Creek. This closure is due to a significant washout event which occurred on August 6 that has completely removed the road crossing. The damage is extensive, and repairs will be complex and costly.

Squamish Nation staff and Sqomish Forestry are working closely together and jointly engaging with the Ministry of Forests to secure the necessary support for repair, design, and funding. We want the community to know we are actively advocating on your behalf to ensure the crossing is rebuilt safely and efficiently.

While a long-term solution is in development, Sqomish installed a restricted and temporary crossing on August 20. This crossing structure is short-term in nature, for the use of industrial and commercial users and will only be in place for several weeks at most. The crossing may be removed or access may be barricaded at any time if it is determined that continued use poses an unacceptable safety or environmental risk. There is no guaranteed access for any period of time committed to any users of the temporary crossing.

The closure is in place effective immediately and will remain until the crossing can be safely rebuilt. We understand this impacts community members, workers, and visitors, and we appreciate your patience as we work toward a long-term solution.

We will provide updates as more information becomes available. For urgent questions, please contact Eric_Baker@squamish.net; 604-346-8098.
