On Tuesday night, the Squamish Nation community came together to celebrate the official Oath Swearing Ceremony for the Nation’s newly elected Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw (Chairperson and Council), who will serve the community during the next four years.
The ceremony was held at Chief Joe Mathias Centre, in the presence of community members, Elders, and special guests from local municipalities and partner organizations. The ceremony honoured both tradition and the shared commitment to advancing the well-being of the Squamish People.
Each elected council member – 15 councillors, one chairperson and one band manager — took their oath of office, pledging to uphold the values, responsibilities, and vision of the Squamish Nation.
The event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Squamish Chair and Council Office, alongside staff from the CAO’s office.
The Squamish Nation extends its gratitude to all who attended and shared in this milestone moment, including representatives from local municipalities and key stakeholders who continue to support the Nation’s path forward.
