Upper Squamish Valley Wildfire Notice

Upper Squamish Valley Wildfire Notice

The Squamish Nation is actively monitoring two wildfires in the Upper Squamish Valley. The Mount Willson wildfire is currently 415 hectares and the Simms Creek wildfire near Sims Creek River is just under 240 hectares. Both fires are suspected to have been ignited by lightning during the weekend.

Squamish Nation Land Guardians have been to the sites near the fires, and Squamish Nation is working closely with the BC Wildfire Service to share knowledge and ensure cultural and sensitive sites are protected.

There are no evacuation alerts or orders in place and both fires remain away from residential areas. The Nation will provide updates if there are any significant changes to the fire situation.

Of Note: The Mud Creek temporary crossing will be taken down tomorrow, Friday, September 5, in anticipation of heavy rain. Extended rain poses a safety risk to the crossing. The BC Wildfire Service has indicated that removing the fire will not impact their ability to fight the ongoing fires in the area because they are all being fought by air.

Squamish People concerned about fire risks can contact the Nation’s Public Safety Department 24 hours at 604-982-9938, or at public_safety@squamish.net
