On October 8, 2019, Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw (Council) approved the creation of “Hiy̓ám̓ ta Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Housing Society,” which means “The Squamish Are Coming Home.”
Hiy̓ám̓ Housing is the not-for-profit organization mandated to lead the development and management of non-profit affordable housing for the Squamish People. Hiy̓ám̓ Housing currently manages 56 affordable housing units and they are also leading the development in Vancouver, North Shore, and Squamish Valley of 424 confirmed new affordable rental homes. They are mandated to deliver 1,000 new homes for the Squamish People and contribute to the Nation’s goal of housing every Member within a generation.
Hiy̓ám̓ Housing also manages the Hiy̓ám̓ Home Loan Program (HHLP) and the Squamish Nation Assistance with Rent Program (SNARP).
Bring Squamish Home
In May 2020, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw approved six sites to be put forward for Hiy̓ám̓ Housing to develop. The six sites represent the largest designation of lands for affordable rental housing in the Nation’s history.
On July 28, 2021, approximately 550 Nation Members cast their ballots in the Affordable Housing Land Designation Referendum, voting yes to approve the first three of six parcels of land.

- Siyích’em along Government Road
These developments will create hundreds of new affordable homes in multi-unit dwellings built exclusively for Members and provide much-needed equitable and diverse housing options.

Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw History Book For Sale
We are excited to announce that tiná7 cht ti temíxw (We Come From This Land) will be published in early January 2024! The book is intended to be a snapshot – a collection of some of the multi-faceted stories and histories that are held by the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh People and a starting point for future conversations.
Squamish Strong Protocol Agreements Signed
As a part of the celebrations of the 100-year anniversary of the Amalgamation of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw, we are pleased to announce the Nation is signing a Wa Iyí̓m ta Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Protocol Agreement with the City of North Vancouver, District of Squamish, and the City of Vancouver respectively.
New Squamish Nation Residential Tenancy Regulations for Sen̓áḵw
Today, the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw announces that the protections in the British Columbia Residential Tenancy Act (BCRTA) will be in place for the Sen̓áḵw development and for future on-reserve housing developments.
