Project Background Squamish Valley does not currently have a longhouse for ceremony/cultural use. As such, the Nation, through Council, has set aside funds for the development and construction of a longhouse in Squamish Valley.
Goals and Objectives On August 18, 2020, Council requested a Needs Assessment be completed by Ta na wa Shéway I7x̱w ta Úxwumixw (Planning & Capital Projects). This assessment will include:
Input from Members
Testing of project assumptions
Environmental assessment
Cultural identity and reflection assessment
Proms to be accommodated in the space
Estimate of capital project costs and operational costs
Timeline March – April 2022 | Community presentation and engagement survey which identified “The Island” at St’á7mes as the preferred location
May 2022 | Council approved the Needs Assessment Report and requested that a Business Case be completed
Fall 2023 | detailed design anticipated to be complete
