RE:      Official Results of the Sen̓áḵw Land Designation Referendum and Business Terms Vote held December 10th, 2019

Amending the Designation of Lots 1 & 2 and Designating Lot 3 on Kitsilano I.R. No. 6 (Sen̓áḵw), and agreeing to the Business Terms of a partnership with Westbank Project Corp. to develop the lands.

On behalf of the Squamish Nation Council, we raise our hands in thanks to the Squamish Nation Membership for casting their ballot for the Sen̓áḵw Land Designation and Business Terms vote.

The results are as follows:

Question 1: “Do you approve of the Amendment of Designation of Lots 1 and 3 and the Designation of Lot 2?”
a) 3053   electors were entitled to vote in the referendum;
b) 829     electors voted in the referendum;
c) 718     votes were cast in favour of the referendum question;
d) 109     votes were cast against the referendum question;
e) 0        ballots were rejected

(Note: Two [2] electors did not provide a response to the first question on their ballot.)

Question 2: Are you in favour of the proposed development of I.R. 6, to be undertaken jointly by the Squamish Nation and Westbank substantially on the terms set out in the Business Terms Information Documents dated October 24, 2019?”
a) 3053   electors were entitled to vote in the referendum;
b) 829     electors voted in the referendum;
c) 665     votes were cast in favour of the referendum question;
d) 161     votes were cast against the referendum question;
e) 0        ballots were rejected

(Note: Three [3] electors did not provide a response to the second question on their ballot.)

These votes from Membership approve the above Land Designation and Business Terms. See attached documents from Indigenous Services Canada.

The results of the referendum were an affirmation of the direction from Membership, with 87% casting a ‘Yes’ vote on the Land Designation, and 81% casting a ‘Yes’ vote on the Business Terms.

The project team will proceed with negotiating the various servicing agreements with the City of Vancouver required to begin construction. Construction is expected to commence in 2021.
