Call for Squamish Member Board Director for Nch’kaỷ Development Corporation

The Nch’kaỷ Development Corporation is seeking potential candidates for its board of directors. The Board will consist of 7 directors, 2 of whom will be members of the Council (“Internal Directors”), 1 of whom will be a member of the Nation, and 4 of whom will be individuals not affiliated with the Nation (“Independent Directors”). This ad is a call for the expression of interest from members of the Nation whom wish to apply for the seat on NDC’s Board of Directors.

Nch’kaỷ Development Corporation (Nch’kaỷ), established in 2018, is the economic development arm of the Squamish Nation with a mandate to own and manage the active businesses of the Nation.

Squamish Nation consists of 23 villages and is comprised of descendants of the Coast Salish Aboriginal people who live in the present day Greater Vancouver area, Gibson’s Landing and Squamish River watershed. The Squamish Nation has occupied and governed the territory since beyond recorded history. The Squamish Nation’s culture is rich and resilient. They continue to practice their customs and traditions, which are strongly interconnected with their traditional territory.  Together their lands, customs and traditions are the foundations of who they are as Skwxwú7mesh.

Nch’kaỷ will be the main driver of future business success for the Nation. It includes existing businesses in the real estate, natural resources, energy, and retail sectors, and is well positioned to capitalize on many new and exciting business opportunities. The Nation’s real estate holdings are significant and provide numerous opportunities to leverage for economic, environmental and social benefits.

Director candidates will bring a broad range of industry experience, ideally with significant exposure to real estate development, infrastructure projects, environmental consulting, forestry, and/or tourism/hospitality. Strong financial acumen and corporate governance experience are highly valued, while experience with business strategy, economic development, risk management, legal expertise are also important skill-sets.  Education credentials will be an asset.
