TOWARDS A SQUAMISH NATION HOUSING SOCIETY (OPEN HOUSE PRESENTATION)
Two “Towards a Squamish Nation Housing Society” Open Houses were held in September 2019 to present information about what a housing society is, and about the proposed governance structure of—as well as a draft mission, vision, and values for—a Squamish Nation Housing Society. On October 8, 2019, the Squamish Nation Council approved the creation of a housing society called “Hiy̓ám̓ ta Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Housing Society,” which means “The Squamish Are Coming Home.”
A board of seven directors (3 SN members, 4 independent), appointed to two and four-year terms, will be tasked with helping build the society with staff, project development, and building 1,000+ affordable housing units for Squamish Nation members in North Shore and Squamish Valley.
