Squamish Nation Receive Funding to Connect Youth to Land-based Learning Opportunities

The Sḵwx̱wu7mesh Úxwumixw has received a donation of $25,000 from the G3 Terminal Vancouver for youth programming. Ta7lnew̓ás Education, Employment & Training Department plans to use the funds to offer a youth environmental training program, which will connect youth to land-based learning in their territory.

This program supports the Squamish Nation’s goal of empowering its people with education from childhood to prepare them for the jobs needed for Squamish Nation businesses and inspire them to pursue their dreams.

“G3 Terminal Vancouver is proud to support this initiative to provide education and training for Squamish Nation students,” says Nick Willcox, Terminal Manager with G3 Terminal Vancouver.

“We believe that environmental education is essential for youth and hope this program can help inspire participants to build a better future.”

The youth environmental training will be available in early spring/summer 2021 in the Squamish Valley, and will be inclusive of Squamish Nation Youth who live on- and off-reserve. The focus will be teaching Squamish youth about the range of careers in the environment sector.

The Squamish Nation Education, Employment & Training Department will provide additional information about the training program and registration later.
