INDIAN DAY SCHOOL CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT MEETING
Date: Monday, February 10th, 2020 from 3:30 pm to 9:00 pm
Location: Chief Joe Mathias Centre
There will be a one hour presentation by Gowling WLG (law firm) and the remaining time will be for assisting community members with completing their Indian Day Schools Claim Forms.
The claims process is now open and Survivors can now take the next step by submitting a claim for compensation. The Approved Settlement provides direct compensation for eligible Survivors, in the range of $10,000 – $200,000, as well as support for families and communities through the establishment of a $200M Legacy Fund. The Settlement is for “Survivors who suffered harms while attending Federal Indian Day Schools and Federal Day Schools”. If you would like to participate in the Settlement, survivors must complete and submit a claim for compensation.
Class Members will have two and a half years to submit their Claim for compensation. The last day to submit a Claim will be July 13, 2022.
All Squamish Nation Survivors are encouraged to join us at the meeting on February 10th. Contact Monica Jacobs at 604-982-8607 if you have any questions.
