Squamish Nation and the District of Squamish have partnered to develop a dike master plan for the Squamish River dike in the vicinity of the Siyich’em Reserve and along the Eagle Viewing Area.
Previous engagement on proposed options was conducted in November 2019. A preferred option has now been selected and endorsed by Squamish Nation Council and the District of Squamish Council. The selected option may enable the Squamish Nation to pursue recapture of unceded lands and historic reserve lands west of the existing dike. This proposed dike alignment is shown in the adjacent figure (Option C and EVA).
The dike master plan identifies a series of next steps to answer remaining questions and enable implementation towards future construction. More information relating to the dike master plan and planning process is available on the project website. https://squamish.ca/yourgovernment/projects-and-initiatives/eaglesiyichemdike/
Further input from Squamish Nation members is being sought. Please visit the project website and respond to the project survey to have your voice heard. An in-person meeting (with COVID-19 safety precautions) will also be held on July 9th for Siyich’em residents. Specifics on the time and place of the meeting will be provided to those residents directly.
