Homeowner Resources

“Becoming a homeowner is a life changing event, rooting a family deep in the community. Sometimes a Nation Member is coming back home to the reserve and sometimes they are just building their own little piece of it. Whatever your circumstance, we are here to help. The staff of the Housing and Capital Projects department offers expertise developed through both provincial certification and years of building experience. Sam and I each have over 25 years experience as Nation home builders and project managers. We also both have our Red Seal ticket in carpentry.”
Skwetsimeltxw W. (Buddy) Joseph Housing and Capital Projects Department Head

Building Community Together was designed to outline the steps to building your home with the assistance of Squamish Nation Housing and Capital Projects. Developed with “Lessons Learned” in mind, it covers Allocation, Planning, Building and Contracts. Homeowners receive a copy once they have been allocated. Members are welcome to download the document for information purposes. (Download the file here!)

The Housing and Capital Projects department has long term relationships, with both suppliers and contractors, that build economy within our Nation. Many of our contractors are Nation members allowing 40% of the budget of each house to stay within our community. Choosing a preferred contractor ensures accountability from the contractor to the Nation. Because they live within our community, they are committed to producing on-going quality work. It is also important to note that our homes are inspected by a former CMHC building inspector and must pass provincial standards. The homes are also under warranty for the first year, and are re-inspected at that time. Owner maintenance is also key. Look for future resources on home maintenance.

Here are the profiles of our contractors. (Download the contractor profiles here!)

Squamish Nation Housing and Capital Projects is always looking for ways to improve our processes and are currently developing a survey of current Homeowners to find out what worked for them and what could have been improved. We will be posting the results and solutions as they evolve. If you have any questions or feedback, please email buddy_joseph@squamish.net
