Squamish Nation continues to incorporate First Nations traditions and cultural values into their NAOSH Week. The development and launch during NAOSH Week of the Squamish Nation THINK SAFETY At Work, At Home, At Play poster and public service announcement video underscores the Nations’ commitment to ensuring safety for all community members.
The Community Safety Circle symbolizes a unified sense of purpose: as representatives of the Squamish Nation community come together to raise awareness for all members to THINK SAFETY: At Work, At Home, At Play.
During NAOSH Week, at individual offices throughout the Nation, THINK SAFETY talking circles will be held with employees to further reinforce the safety message.

Download hereMay 6-12, 2012 has been designated as this year’s North American Occupational Safety & Health (NAOSH) Week. Now in its sixteenth year, governments, employers, and workers across the continent of North America will take time out from their normal activities to promote the importance the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace and at home.
Squamish Nation will be an active participate in NAOSH Week. On April 27th, 2012 Chiefs and Council; Co-Chairs proclaimed May 6-12, 2012, to be North American Occupational Safety & Health Week in the Squamish Nation. Over 25 safety week events will take place, from the North Shore to Squamish. Squamish Nation Workplace Health & Safety Committee members and numerous volunteers have worked to ensure that the Nations’ safety message reaches all 420 employees, children, youth and elders.
Colorful banners incorporating the Squamish Nation - Thunderbird logo and NAOSH Week logo - three hands forming an equilateral triangle are proudly displayed in all Squamish Nation buildings.

Awareness and preparation are key for coping with the unexpected. A great way to get prepared for any emergency or disaster is to take part in the upcoming Personal Preparedness Workshop –a 1 ½ hour workshop based on an all hazards approach.
By planning ahead you can reduce the fear, anxiety and loss that accompany disasters. Learn about safe food and water supplies, utilities, sanitation, out-of-area contacts, what to put in your home emergency kit and more.

September 19th CSSE Past President Peter Sturm presents the Best New Entry, North American Occupational Safety & Health Week Award to Squamish Nation, BC. Accepting this prestigious award, the Nation’s OHS Officer, Doreen Maruska. The award was presented at the Annual Health & Safety Conference held at Whistler, BC.
MOSQUITO CREEK MARINA - Employee Safety Awards
Mosquito Creek Marina has introduced an awards program to recognize employees who consistently practice safe work procedures, and go beyond the “call of duty” to contribute to the success of the Marina’s NOBODY GETS HURT safety program.
August 2011 - Employee Safety Award was presented to Todd Small Legs, MCM Employee (pictured right). The award was presented on August 25th by Norm Guerrero, MCM Safety Team Representative (pictured left).
July 2011 - Employee Safety award presented to Jason Joseph, Mosquito Creek Marina (MCM) Employee (pictured left) and Michael B. Nahanee, MCM Senior Employee (pictured right). The award was presented on July 7th by Norm Guerrero, MCM Safety Team Rep. (Center).
