Department Description

The role of the department is to assist Council to strengthen the effectiveness, efficiency and accountability of its operation. The team provides support and advice to operating departments within the Nation to assist them in accomplishing their financial and technological objectives.

Services Offered

  • The department provides Chiefs and Council with a financial planning function through development of budgets, cash flow projections and workplans.
  • It also serves Chiefs and Council in the financial integrity function through management of banking, insurance, asset management and borrowing and audits.
  • The department provides regular financial reporting to Chiefs and Council and Band Manger, to departments, to outside funding agencies and governments, to banks and to membership.
  • It supplies payment services to all Nation departments in the form of vendor payments and payments to employees, students, members and Social Assistance clients.
  • The department works with other Nation departments to administer the revenue function, ensuring that all revenues are collected and properly recorded.
  • Finance department staff offer direct services to Membership in the form of preparing annual tax returns and by assisting members in their applications for government services.
  • The Technology group administers network and computer services to more than 22 locations in the Nation through a state-of-the-art system of hardware and software. The group manages the Nation’s communication services such as telephones, cell phones and networked email. As well, technology staff provides minor assistance to general membership on personal technology issues.
